Narrativo:
A gas station altercation led to the shooting of a patron, resulting in serious injury. Another patron, who was standing nearby, was also injured by shrapnel. The suspects fled the area prior to police arrival. An intensive investigation identified the suspects and culminated in their arrests in the communities of Highland and San Bernardino, CA.

On the evening of 10/29/2021, the Sheriff’s Communications Center received 911 calls of shots fired in the parking lot of the Shell Gas Station, 107 West Ventura Boulevard, Camarillo. Several witnesses reported two suspects fled in a black Toyota Corolla onto US 101 freeway. Deputies arrived seconds later and found one male victim with a serious, but not life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital for treatment. Another male victim was found with minor injuries. He was treated on scene and released.

Sheriff’s Major Crimes Detectives, along with investigators of the Camarillo Police Department; Special Enforcement Detail began an intensive investigation into the shooting. Their investigation identified the suspects as Sterron Strother and Ty’Shayn Hampton both residents of Highland, CA.

On 11/8/2021, Sheriff’s Investigators obtained search warrants and arrest warrants for Strother and Hampton. Sheriff’s investigators, along with San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department; Special Enforcement Detail/SWAT Deputies, located and arrested Strother and Hampton for charges relating to the attempt murder of the victim who sustained serious injuries.

The investigation connected Strother and Hampton to a group of solicitors who frequented shopping centers for the purposes of high-pressure sales tactics involving chocolate candy bars.  They did so under the guise of benefiting charitable organizations. These suspects were frequent solicitors of Ventura County, including the City of Camarillo.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages any witnesses to this shooting to contact Detective Michael Marco at 805-384-4739.
