The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is comprised of both sworn personnel and professional employees working together to serve the mission of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

The employees of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office are held to the highest standard of integrity and good moral character. Because of the responsibilities bestowed upon law enforcement personnel and the absolute requirement of public trust, all prospective employees must undergo a rigorous testing and background examination process, which includes an in-depth personal history statement, and, for specific positions, psychological testing, and a polygraph.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office has a Sheriff’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. This committee is made up of employees from diverse backgrounds and work assignments. The current committee has identified the following focus initiatives:

  • Employee engagement, inclusion and belonging for all staff
  • Work/life balance for all employees, especially working parents and those returning from leave
  • Employee/community engagement with the public we serve
  • DEI education for staff to include topics such as race, gender, mental health and wellness, disabilities (physical, functional and intellectual) with a special emphasis to reduce stigma around these topics and normalize uncomfortable conversations
